Here's a way to do some "local good" and connect with the Council and bring in new people as volunteers (non Buddhist). Gil had this idea to sell Australian native plants as a way of raising money and I have morphed it to not make money for TI but to fund some benevolent work for the local community. TI has a commercial kitchen that we should be using. Covid has caused trouble for families and has forced an online mentality that would be good for us to adopt and which would make this idea pretty do-able. Here it is:One Saturday, we sell 50 native plants via Facebook advertising, not the TI page. Customers buy online and we deliver via volunteers who drop them off, contact-lessly in the local area (Facebook ads can be automatically targeted to locations and interests (eg: gardeners). The income would fund the cooking of meals at TI for similar volunteer delivery to poor families in the local district as identified by the Council. Depending on how well it goes, we could do each week. We could advertise for volunteers via Facebook ads and I would expect we would attract new people — some of whom would likely graduate to TI down the track. Meanwhile, we inspire our own community and finally get back to what Geshe-la reminded us of in the year 2000... get more involved and help out the neighbours.
