DIY SEO Fact: all search engines love what all searchers want — informative, fascinating, entertaining and rewarding… content.

Original content.

DIY SEO Masterplan: Give The Search Engines Quality Content for Their Users

No matter what you write, or get written for you, just remember that the search engines are rating you against all the other pages that focus on that same keyword. One page has to be first and the rest will follow in order right down to the last entry.

DIY SEO please the search enginesTo get content that search engines reward with high rankings, you need to create your page with careful attention to onpage optimisation, the first “half” of SEO. But you still have to be careful.

Although you are trying to woo the search engines, that’s just a necessary step on your way to your own objective. Even if the search engine loves your optimisation and gives you what you want, even if they send potential customers to your web page, that doesn’t make you a sale. You may have satisfied search engine robots and algorithms and got your webpage ranked high on their listings, but what does a human think of it?

Your page still has to work for those who read it with their eyes and hearts. That’s another important DIY SEO Fact

Once you’ve decided on the keywords you want to rank for, you then have to optimise your webpage for that phrase.  Write you copy around the keyword phrase so that it is natural and persuasive for the reader.

In DIY SEO terms, there are various essential things you need to make sure you have done right. I go into more detail in another place but here I’m listing the main factors. Make sure the keyword is used in the title of the page.  Some SEO experts aim to use it at the start and end of the body of the piece. You should use your keyword throughout the article at a rate of about 2 or 3 times per hundred words. This is called the keyword density rate.

Search engines and readers see red when you go above that rate, so don’t overdo it, that’s spam.

Other valuable places for keywords in DIY SEO

The keyword is better in H tags (H1, H2, H3) and in the alt text of images — you definitely should include images, not just for DIY SEO but to add visual interest to your page.

Multiple articles using the same keyword will lift the weight of your site’s gravitas for that keyword phrase in the eyes of the search engines.

You do not optimise your site, you optimise your pages so the more pages of original content you can generate (optimised), then the more keywords your whole site is “optimised” for.

Build Internal Links and Links That Lead to Authority Sites

Search engines love links too. Links are the currency of the internet. So when you construct your site itself, remember to spend some time on your navigation. This is not just to help a user find their way around your site, it will also help search engines find their way around it too.

Make sure your links contain your keywords and not “click here”; those kind of empty phrases tell the search engines nothing about what they will find at the end of that click.

Find ways to keyword-link to your other pages from inside your articles. Use breadcrumbs and site map links in your footer for instance. Google also likes you to link to what is known as authority sites, leaders in the same area of your site’s topics. Wikipedia is a good example.

This is why I recommend WordPress to my clients

It automatically optimises your pages for you and you can set it to also title each page with the keyword phrase you have used in your page title, another huge boost with Google. An there are tons of plugins that will add so much to user experience and help you get the best out of your work with search engines.

One of Google’s most advanced ideas was to use other sites as the sign post for telling them which sites were best for what keyword. They were looking for “votes” from outside sites who were seen to be independent. Keep this in the front of your mind when you start DIY SEO.
